Product Relaunch;  2010-Present
For 2010 Sweethearts® had a big makeover! We updated the 6 flavors to more kid friendly fruits and changed the texture to a softer, less chalky heart. We also made over the existing line extensions: En Español, Chocolate and Sugar Free. We added a new extension, Dazzled Tarts™. They are sparkly, tart hearts with new expressions “for your little princess” such as “BFF, DIVA, and ROCK STAR”
The packaging was updated to highlight the main focus of Sweethearts®, the expressions. There are 4 various Sweethearts® expressions that appear on each flavor box. Finally, the size of the 1 oz. boxes were shrunk 1/2” in height to use less paper resources.
Along with the 1oz boxes were our new Theater Box offerings. Sweethearts® Dazzled Tarts™ in a 4 oz box. Sweethearts® Heart to Heart™ was exclusive to Target® and featured hearts with real fruit and high antioxidant content. Sweethearts® Sweet & Tart is an assorted mix of our original Sweethearts® and our Sweethearts® Dazzled Tarts™ in a 4 oz. box.
Sweethearts® laydown bags are an essential part of the Valentine’s season. For 2010 we also added new laydown bags for the line extensions:, En Español, Chocolate, Sugar Free and Dazzled Tarts™.

The packaging was updated to mirror the individual boxes, which highlight the main focus of Sweethearts®, the expressions. The product window was removed and we added an illustration of the product instead. This demonstrates the various phrases that are inside the bag more easily.

These displays were designed to be placed in the front, check-out aisle section of mass merchandisers. The display structure was constructed with ease of packing, shipping, and assembly in mind. The gravity-feeding of the individual boxes make shopping for the box with your exclusive phrase easy. The large heart graphics give a nice billboard effect.
Sweethearts® candies have always been a favorite in the classroom.This Classroom Exchange display was designed with mom’s and teachers in mind. I attempted to create a complete one-stop destination with everything you may need for your Valentine season.

The display includes: Sweethearts® 8-Packs for exchanging, Sweethearts® Laydown Bags for eating, creating crafts and decorating the home, and 2 sections of Sweethearts® Classroom Exchange Bags (32 packets per bag, perfect size for classrooms).

The large chalkboard header card at the top of the display helps call moms & teachers attention to the display. The large individual sections make it easy to find the products they are looking for.

New for Valentines 2010 was the Sweethearts® Stand-Up bags. They are available in Original, Dazzled Tarts, Large Hearts, En Español and also a bag of Original flavors with Target® exclusive phrases. The two main uses for our bags of Sweethearts® are craft making and displaying in a candy dish, the biggest problem has been keeping the hearts fresh if you don’t use the whole bag. The new reclosable zipper built into the bag solved this issue. We also included various craft projects on the back of each bag such as Chocolate Sweethearts® Cupcake Picks and Sweethearts® Candy Flowers, for families to enjoy together. The Dazzled Tarts bag included a fun “Dial-Up Your Dazzle-tude” maze game for kids.
Sweethearts® took its first dive into social media in 2010 with our new iPhone app. We teamed up with the incredibly talented folks at Genuine Interactive and Twitter® to allow users to create their own custom Sweethearts® phrases, and share them with their Twitter® friends (or via email). You can create and share up to 5 custom phrases before they are sealed up in a Sweethearts® box and sent off to the recipient. You could also ‘browse’ through all of the latest custom Sweethearts® that people have created.
Also for 2010 Sweethearts® took on it’s first partnership with the USO® through a product called ‘Red, White & You.’ We became a sponsor of their Operation Care Package program that puts together thousands of care packages for active service men and women overseas.

We created ‘Red, White and You’ as a sweet way to say “Thank You!” and come “Home Safe” to the troops. 13 messages appeared on the hearts such as: USO, Brave One, Valor, and Proud Of U. We also created a crafting program that was available on our website www.mysweethearts.com. The crafts were fun and easy for parents and kids to enjoy together.

The Sweethearts were available for a limited time in 1 oz boxes, 14 oz laydown bags,
a 216 ct POP Display and a 100ct Powerwing.

For the summer of 2010 we launched a Sweethearts® Red, White and You™ product and advertising campaign. We partnered with Boston agency Mullen to create a powerful ad that was featured in the special "Summer's Hottest Bachelors" double issue of People magazine. The ad featured all 10 of our Sweethearts® Red, White and You™ phrases, and was created in partnership with the USO's Operation Care Package program. The ad was designed for the reader to cut out of the magazine and send to the troops via the 'Letters from Home' program.
